Manufacturing process

Mac Panther Materials manufactures polyurethane-based metal foams (PU) and refines existing metal foams. To produce these hybrid foams, a galvanic process is used in which polyurethane foam or metal foam is coated with a metal.

Electroplating is a well-known and widely used coating process, which can be monitored very easily and guarantees high reproducibility.

During the coating process, the electromagnetic shielding and the depletion of the metal ions in the electrolyte cause inhomogeneous layer thicknesses within the foam. The challenge is therefore to produce a homogeneous coating along the entire foam cross section. The cofounder PD Dr.-Ing. Dr. Anne Jung solved this problem in her dissertation and was awarded the German Dissertation Prize in 2013 by President Norbert Lammert, President of the German Bundestag.
